A beautiful rose garden is something to behold. The better rose beds are prepared, the better they'll grow. Here's how to properly prepare rose beds for a rose garden.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • • Cow manure • Rocks/broken stone • Ruler • Fresh roses • Water • Bucket • Top soil • Shovel
  1. Step 1

First, choose an appropriate planting site.

The site should be open, sunny, well-drained and have a southeastern exposure.

  2. Step 2

    Second, build the rose beds.

The size of the garden has some bearing on the width of the beds. The best rose flower bed is 3 feet wide and no more than 4 1/2 feet long.

Note: Roses look best in narrow beds with a large area of turf surrounding them.

  3. Step 3

    Third, prepare the rose beds.

Roses need good drainage. Dig the bed 2 or 2 1/2 ft. deep. Place a 6-inch layer of broken stone or clay pot chards on the bottom of the bed. Cover the stone with soil. Lay 6-inches of cow manure atop the soil, tap and fill the remainder of the bed with good top soil.

  4. Step 4

    Fourth, plant the roses

Dig a hole large enough to accommodate the spreading of the rose roots. Build a small mound inside of the hold. At the point of the rose bud or point were the rose was grafted or budded, plant the bush about two inches under the surface. The planting depth depends on the height of the bud on the stem. Plant the rose stock firmly, keeping the surface soil loose.

  5. Step 5

    Fifth, water the roses.

Tips & Warnings
  • Allow the beds to settle before planting the roses.
  • Keep the roots of the roses moist prior to planting.
