How to Change a Terminal

The Terminal utility application, which is included on all Mac computers running the OS X operating system, allows you to manage your computer with UNIX commands. The standard Terminal is a white background with black text, but you can change the program's visual settings to customize the color and font of your Terminal windows.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Open a new Finder window by clicking on the icon in the Dock.

  2. Step 2

    Navigate to the "Utilities" folder in the "Applications" section of the Mac hard drive.

  3. Step 3

    Double-click on the "Terminal" icon to launch the utility application.

  4. Step 4

    Go to "Terminal" in the top menu bar and choose "Preferences."

  5. Step 5

    Go to the "Settings" tab at the top of the preferences window.

  6. Step 6

    Choose a color and font theme from the left side of the window, and click on the "Default" button at the button to change the appearance of new Terminal windows.

  7. Step 7

    Close the preferences window, open the "Shell" menu and choose the "New Window" option. A new Terminal window will open with the theme you chose in Step 6.
