If your engine is running erratically, move the choke lever to the OFF position. You may have water or dirt in your fuel system. In addition, there is a chance the carburetor is out of adjustment. If you experience loss of power, connect and tighten the spark plug wire and then restart. Another cause for loss of power is a plugged fuel cap vent -- simply clear this to remedy the problem. If those tactics fail, check the exhaust pipe to determine if there are any obstructions.

If you experience excessive vibration, stop the engine immediately and disconnect the spark plug wire. Check for any loose parts or a damaged auger. Make sure all bolts and nuts are secure and tight. If you can not solve the problem on your own, contact an authorized MTD service dealer.

If your unit fails to discharge snow, shut off the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire. Clean the discharge chute and auger housing. Remove any foreign objects lodged in the auger. Inspect the drive belt to see if there is any damage and whether it needs replacement.
