If you have noticed a leak under your Maytag Performa and have ruled out the obvious causes, the water pump may need to be replaced. Make sure that you purchase a new water pump designed for the Maytag Performa. You will need the owner's manual for the disassembly procedures for the cabinet in order to gain access to the water pump. Turn off the power and water supply to the washer before attempting repairs.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Remove the drain hose from the outlet on the pump using a pair of pliers. The drain hose connects to the water pump at the rear right side of the washer.

  2. Step 2

Remove the rear access panel according to the owner's manual. This can usually be done by removing screws that attach the access panel to the washer.

  3. Step 3

Disconnect the inlet hose from the water pump using a screwdriver. Unscrew the three mounting screws that hold the pump to the base of the washer with an appropriate size socket wrench.

  4. Step 4

Slide the water pump forward and carefully slip it under the drive belt and out of the washer. By not disturbing the drive belt, the installation of the new pump will be much easier.

  5. Step 5

Slip the new pump under the drive belt and position the belt on the pulley. Set the pump on the base of the washer and line it up with the mounting holes.

  6. Step 6

Attach the mounting screws to attach the water pump to the base. Have to have one hand pulling the pump into place and keeping tension on the belt while doing this.

  7. Step 7

Connect the inlet hose to the water pump and reattach the rear access panel. Connect the drain hose to the water pump.
