As a person ages, fat sometimes accumulates in the jaw line. This is often called a double chin or jowls. You can do several things to improve this area: lose weight, do exercises for the jaw, get liposuction in the jaw or get a facelift.
Things You'll Need
- Healthy Low Fat Diet
- Stretching and Strengthening Exercises
- Consultation with Plastic Surgeon
Being overweight will definitely add fat to your jaw line. Work on losing the excess pounds first through diet and exercise to see if you are happy with your new slimmer jaw.
Do strengthening and stretching exercises to tone and tighten the area in the jaw line.
Alternate the following exercises for about 3 to 4 minutes each day.
Strengthening Exercise 1: Puckering your lips tightly, move your lips up toward your nose and hold for about 15 to 20 seconds. Sometimes closing your eyes will help relax the rest of your face so you can focus on the jaw line.
Strengthening Exercise 2: With a slightly open mouth and teeth closed-but not clenched, pulls the corners of your mouth back towards your ears firmly. Squeeze and tighten your neck muscles. Hold the position for 20 seconds.
Stretching Exercise 3: Slowly tilt your head back and lift your chin to the ceiling stretching the entire jaw area. Hold the stretch for about 7 to 10 seconds. Gently and slowly tip your right towards your right shoulder. Hold for about 20 seconds. Repeat on the left side. Tip your chin forward towards your chest for about 7 seconds.
Stretching Exercise 4: Open your mouth wide like you are about to shout and hold for just 5 seconds.
Get liposuction done in the jaw line. During the surgery, the doctor will probably only need to give you a local anesthesia if the area is small. He will extract the excess fat through a tiny incision. It's best if you are within a normal weight range and have skin that is still elastic.
Get a lower facelift. Through extensive surgery, a plastic surgeon will lift the area around the jaw line. The fat will be removed from the neckline in the process.
