Nervous about cutting your infant's nails? Think that you may end up cutting more off than just the nail? Or maybe you've cut the nail and they are still sharp! In this short article, you'll learn techniques on how to cut your baby's nails so that they will be cut to perfection.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Baby Nail Clipper (Hospital Choice)
  • Nail Emery Board (you can find this at your local drug store in the beauty products/make-up area by the nail care items)
  1. Step 1

Make sure you cut your infant's nails while they are sleeping. This will prevent any accidents. Infants like to move around and they don't like sitting still to have their nails cut. Make sure they are sound asleep and then turn on a lamp/light to see what you are doing.

  2. Step 2

Use your baby nail clipper to cut UNDER the nail. Be aware about cutting under the nail or else you will end up clipping skin! Cut the top first and then around the sides to prevent sharpness. Continue this until you have done all nails.

  3. Step 3

Use your nail emery board to file your baby's nails until they are smooth. Make sure you get the corners. Most babies tend to scratch their faces when they have sharp nails.

Tips & Warnings
  • Baby nail files tend to break and are too hard for baby's nails. The emery board is perfect for rounding/smoothing corners.
  • Simply baby nail clippers are best. Try to avoid buying new nail clippers with added gadgets, such as magnifying glass...from experience - they don't work. Save your money and buy a simple baby nail clipper.
