Before you can treat depression, you must know depression symptoms. This can be with yourself, or someone that you love. Depression symptoms can vary with an individual. We all can have small forms of depression, like seasonal depression for instances. It's also important to get treatment to determine the kind of depression medicine you should be taking. First lets figure out which symptoms that you're suffering from.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Lack of any real hope. We all can become sad, that is not clinical depression. Clinical depression is where you constantly have no real hope, or any confidence at all, and feel as if everything is coming to an end. This is a normal feeling that you tend to have, where sometimes nothing at all can really trigger this feeling. When those become truly depressed, they don't seem to have much hope, or confidence, and they feel extremely down on themselves and on everything around them. Their world becomes black and grey, and they feel in extreme emotional pain and sadness. Sometimes these may, or may not trigger suicidal thoughts even. Everyone can get the monday blues, that's not clinical depression. If you have these feelings, then you're seriously depressed.

  2. Step 2

Living in constant fear. This can definitely be symptoms of depression. Everyone has fears, I realize this. So just because you fear something, doesn't mean you're depressed. If that were the case, then we'd all be that way. If you live in constant fear, where these fears overwhelm your feelings, and daily life, that is depression. A lot times you'll see this form of depression in kids. Depression in teens can definitely be related to fear and pressure of fitting in. Something parents should definitely try to take note of and keep an eye out for. Treating depression starts with getting down to the problem.

  3. Step 3

Lack of sleep. If you're constantly struggling to sleep, which is usually driven from the problems in your life. This is a symptom of depression, obviously not one in itself. When we go to sleep, it's important to have a peaceful mind. That way our body, along with our mind can relax and feel at ease. When you have a lot of stress, or you're depressed, this becomes difficult to do. Which can lead to inconsistent sleep, or lack of sleep as well. Poor health, especially mental health can really trigger depression quite often.

  4. Step 4

Loss of interest. A person who gets depressed, seems to lose interest in a lot of things in life. You tend to lose a sense of joy in your life, and tend to not have much interest in things. A person can tend to be anti-social, and start to have social anxiety, and phobias in general as well. You lose your passion in the things you once enjoy, and struggle to have much, if any excitement at all in your life. Everything seems to be misery for you.

  5. Step 5

Figuring out if you have bipolar depression. It's a form of manic depression, where a persons feelings quickly change from one feeling, to another quite fast. A person within seconds can turn from happy, confident, to very sad, depressed, or angry without any real reason. Something really small, or simple can trigger this feeling fast and instant. It's basically mood changes, without much cause or reason involved. A lot of things can trigger because of this. It's a form of the depression that can be very serious, treatment is likely needed.

  6. Step 6

Aggressive behavior. Depression is a form of rage inside someone. Depression can turn into rage quite often, a lot of therapists will tell you this as well. If you have a lot of anger impulses, that are triggered quite easily, this is a depression symptom. Those who suffer from anger issues, they're not happy people. They don't tend to feel exactly good about themselves, so they turn those feelings into range. Sadness transpires into range, so anger is any obvious symptom.

  7. Step 7

Lack of concentration. There have been studies to show that depression can limit ones ability to concentrate. A lot of lack of interest in daily life, and things in general can effect a person quite a bit. Depression is not healthy for your brain, and it effects your ability to function as a person.

  8. Step 8

Seek a psychiatrist. If you have these symptoms, contract a psychiatrist. They'll likely recommend you depression drugs, like antidepressants. They'll evaluate you, and decide the kind of treatment that is needed for you. Treating depression can be done successfully. It takes the willing to want to beat this and the proper support from those around you. You don't have to feel this way forever, so don't feel defeated. Don't feel embarrassed as well. I suffer from depression, so do millions of Americans.
