Pack and Ship a Set of Dishes

As a former owner of a Mail Boxes Etc. franchise, I have packed and shipped many a dish. And I am proud to report that they have all reached their destination safely. Here are some great tips on how to pack and ship a set of dishes:

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Boxes, bubble wrap, styrofoam peanuts, packing tape and labels.
  1. Step 1

    1) Always use a new cardboard box. A standard set of dishes will usually fit into 3 to 4 large boxes to ensure safe delivery.

  2. Step 2

    2) Individually enclose each and every dish in large bubble wrap with the bubbles facing inward. Tape securely.

  3. Step 3

    3) Layer the bottom of the box with 2 inches of Styrofoam peanuts. Do not ever use newspaper! Place several wrapped dishes gently on top of the peanuts but make sure they are not touching one another. Cover the dishes with another 2 inch layer of peanuts.

  4. Step 4

    4) When packing and shipping a fragile set of dishes it is important every so often to lightly shake the box so that the peanuts disperse evenly. Repeat the above steps until the box is full.

  5. Step 5

    5) Seal the box, label it and cover the label with clear tape so that the address does not smear during shipping in case of inclement weather.

  6. Step 6

    6) Apply several fragile/glass stickers to the box.

  7. Step 7

    7) Always insure your shipment through your carrier of choice and keep records of your tracking numbers.

  8. Step 8

    8) When insuring collectible items or antiques, it may be a good idea to have the goods appraised prior to shipping them so that you are aware and have proof of their true monetary value.
