Things You'll Need:
- Apples (I like to use Granny Smith)
- Light Brown Sugar
- Cinnamon
- Allspice
- Water
- Walnuts or pecans (If desired)
- Butter
-
Step 1
If you have apple trees you can pick your own apples or like me you can go to your Farmer's Market and purchase them. Apples will be inexpensive this time of year because they are in season. I was researching apples and I found an article that said you can freeze apples. I didn't know this but I'm going to try it so that I can keep apples on hand for the middle of winter when I want to make my pies and baked apple dishes.
-
Step 2
Pre-heat oven to 325 degrees. Before making the apples make sure they are clean. Rinsing with cold water will clean the apples and they will be ready for preparation. Core the apples and stand up in a casserole dish. The amount of apples you will need for this recipe depends on the amount of people in your family. I usually make 6 apples and I use a smaller casserole dish so that the apples can touch and will not fall over in the dish during baking.
-
Step 3
Once your apples are positioned in the baking dish combine 1 Tablespoon brown sugar in the center of each apple along with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon allspice. For a special ingredient place a teapoon of butter in each apple. This will make your baked apples a special treat. If you like you can add chopped nuts. Pour 1/3 cup of water in the bottom of the casserole.
Bake apples for 50 to 55 minutes or till tender. Enjoy!
