Have you ever been to a sea-food restaurant and wondered where the meat called the abalone derived from? This article will show you what an abalone is and where they came from.

    First thing you should know is what is an abalone? An abalone is a type of sea mollusk in a shell that is mostly oval. The shell is a kind of spiraled shell. The shell can be many different colors and mostly iridescent. You will also notice respiratory holes around the edge of the shell. See the picture.

    The inner muscle of the abalone is what you find in your sea-food restaurants. All over the world this is a morsel from the sea with rich flavor.

    The Shell is often used as jewelry and decorations. The iridescent colors shine and will catch someone's eye quickly. The shell of the abalone is often referred to as the mother-of-pearl.

    Abalones can be found all over the world in the various oceans. Most of the abalones are now in abalone farms in places like California, Japan, China, and Australia. Many locations of abalones are disappearing due to the high demand of its products. This is why many places are turning to farming of the abalone.
