The peace Corps is a volunteer program run by the government to help needy people in America and foreign nations, Peace Corps work can be very satisfying and rewarding. Joining the Peace Corps can offer ample opportunity for foreign travel, personal growth and a wealth of experience.

  1. Step 1

    Please know that that Peace Corps volunteers work and live with people of developing nations around the world and work to solve educational problems, economic problems, food and water problems and health problems. If you are still interested in joining the Peace Corps then read on.

  2. Step 2

    To volunteer for Peace Corps you must be 18 years of age and be willing to devote two years of service to others who need help. Married couples can serve and be placed together. There is no educational or degree requirement for most assignments, though a specialization in a certain field would be helpful.

  3. Step 3

    To start your Peace Corps volunteer work and to ask any questions you might have the number to call is 1-800-424-8580, you will speak to a Peace Corps staff member.

  4. Step 4

    Prior to and during your assignment you will be trained about the culture of the host country and given the basics on how to speak the local language.

  5. Step 5

    Your travel and medical need expenses will all be covered by Peace Corps. While on assignment, you'll receive an allowance to cover housing, food and the essentials. You'll also receive spending cash while there.

  6. Step 6

    When you return home you will also receive a lump some of cash to help you get started again. The lump some is based on how many months you served.

  7. Step 7

    Of course joining the Peace Corps is not really about the compensation but more about the valuable professionals and personal experience you get. When you are done with your time served you will be proud of yourself knowing that you helped people and faced more challenges than most people face in a lifetime.
