How to Add a Contact In iChat
IChat is an instant messaging program built into the OS X operating system that allows Macintosh users to communicate with other people who have a .Mac or AOL Instant Mesenger account. In order to be able to see if your friends or coworkers are online, you need to first add them to your contacts list within iChat. Adding contacts to your list is fairly easy to do and should only take a few seconds.

Launch iChat. Press the "+" sign at the bottom left side of the iChat window in order to add a new buddy.

Select what type of account the person you are adding has. You must either choose .Mac for a .Mac account or AIM for an AOL account.

Enter in the person's username or email address into the "Account Name" field. For AIM accounts you will enter a username; for .Mac accounts you will enter an email address.

Enter the person's real first and last name into the name fields if you would like his real name to be displayed on your contact list rather than his username.

Enter in your contact's email address if you would like to have the ability to email her from within iChat.

Click the "Add" button in order to add your contact.
