How to Create a Drop Cap in a Microsoft Word 2007 Document

Drop caps are popular formatting features used in a variety of publications such as newsletters and short stories. Many people would recognize the example of a drop cap as the over-sized letter "O" in "Once upon a time" that frequents children's storybooks.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Microsoft Word 2007
  1. Step 1
    Select the
     
    Select the "Insert" tab

    Click on the "Insert" tab in the toolbar.

  2. Step 2
    Drop Cap drop-down menu
     
    Drop Cap drop-down menu

    Select "Drop Cap." A menu of options will drop down for you to choose from that will determine how the text will line up with the drop cap.

  3. Step 3

    Resize the drop cap as desired by clicking and dragging on one of the corners of the text box containing the drop cap.

  4. Step 4
    Adjust margins with the ruler
     
    Adjust margins with the ruler

    Click and drag within the ruler to adjust the margins as needed.
