Choosing a Kid-Friendly Destination, Time of Year, and Activities

1. Children are welcomed in Mexico and generally treated well. Decide if you want your trip to be educational, relaxing, or both. For example, Mexico City and Merida both offer an abundance of opportunity for children to learn about authentic Mexican culture and "lost" Mayan culture. Destinations such as Cancun and Mazatlan offer endless stretches of family-friendly beaches for relaxation and water activities.

For example, although you may be tempted to take the kids to Cancun during their spring break, remember that many of the resorts are filled with college students and partying and the booze will be flowing. Summer months can be extremely hot, so aim for taking the vacation during your kids' winter holiday break.
