If your local playground is your child's favorite place ... why not celebrate their birthday there?

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose... a playground that has a restroom and picnic tables. A playground that is fenced in is also highly desirable.

  2. Step 2

Invitations ... send out invites and be sure to ask parents to stay. The more eyes on the kids the better. If the playground has a water feature be sure to remind parents to bring a towel and change of clothes for their child. Include a rain date on the invitation. Limit the time to 1 1/2 hours, 2 hours maximum. Parents love parties that feed the kids...if this is in your budget be sure to schedule around lunch time and include that lunch will be pizza on the invitation.

  3. Step 3

Refreshments ... plan to have pizza delivered to the playground 1/2 hour after the start time of the party. Make pizza arrangements ahead of time. No pizza parlour will delivery to a park or playground without payment first and contact info. Juice boxes are easier than bottles with cups. Bring paper towels, wipes, sanitizer, and a small first aid kit. Always include water as an alternative to sugary drinks. Keep dessert simple ... cupcakes are easier than cake because you don't need paper plates or forks. Be sure to have enough food for the adults who are staying to watch the kids.

  4. Step 4

Decorations ... simple is best. Plastic table cloths from the dollar store, colorful napkins and a dozen balloons are more than enough.

  5. Step 5

Goody Bags ... playground items are easy to find... bubbles, sidewalk chalk and penny candy are great to put into a small bucket or cellophane bag.

  6. Step 6

Clean up... remember that it was your party! Make sure to bring an extra large trash bag so that you can just put all your garbage into it. Tie it up and put it near a trash can.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that you include directions to the playground or park.
  • If there are parking meters, have extra quarters on hand for your guests.
  • If parents are dropping off a child make sure that you have their cell phone number.
  • Have bug spray and sunscreen on hand.
  • Playgrounds and parks are public places. Make sure that you arrive early to clear the ground of any unfortunate evidence of adult behavior.
  • Make sure that you have adequate adult supervision. There should be one adult for every 5 children.
