Instead of using salt in my everyday cooking I use a cajun seasoning. Yes it has salt in it but you will be using alot less sodium then you would if you used salt instead. There are many good cajun spices on the market but below is my recipe on how to make an excellent homemade cajun seasoning.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Ingredients for Cajun Seasoning:

    2 teaspoons of salt
    4 teaspoons paprika
    4 teaspoons garlic powder
    2 teaspoons ground black pepper
    2 teaspoons of white pepper
    4 teaspoons onion powder
2 teaspoons of red pepper (cayenne)
    1 teaspoon of chili powder
2 teaspoons of dried thyme, crumbled
1 teaspoon of dried oregano, crumbled

  2. Step 2
    cajun season

Combine all of the above ingredients in small bowl and mix thoroughly. The above recipe will make 1/2 a cup and can be stored in an airtight container for about a month.

  3. Step 3
    cajun seasoning on fish

Use on fish, chicken, beef, pork and vegetables and is a great substitute for just pain salt.
