How to Block Your Number from Caller ID Temporarily thumbnail
You can disable caller ID when calling from a mobile, landline or VoIP phone.

Caller ID displays your phone number and often your name when you make an outgoing call. This information is displayed on the phone, external caller ID device or even a television or other display device depending on the phone service of the phone number receiving the call. You can block this information from being displayed permanently with some phone service providers, but can also block it on a per-call basis with all providers.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift the receiver of a landline phone and dial *67 plus the number you are calling. For example, if you're dialing 555-1212, you would instead dial *675551212. If you have a rotary phone, dial 1167 plus the number you are calling.

    • 2

Enter *67 plus the number you are calling on the dial pad of your wireless phone. Press "Send."

    • 3

Dial or enter *82 to unblock Caller ID for a call if you have caller ID permanently blocked through your phone service provider. For example, to enable caller ID for 555-1212, dial or enter *825551212.

Tips & Warnings

  • You cannot block caller ID to emergency services like police and fire departments. The Automatic Number Identification and Automatic Location Information provided when you dial 9-1-1 cannot be blocked by *67.

  • When you block caller ID, the number is displayed as "Unknown" or "Private" on the receiving caller ID device.
