Paper Bag Puppets

Paper bag puppets are one of the funnest, easiest and least expensive kids craft ideas. You can make just about anything you can imagine. Kids can make animal puppets, funny people or even robots. Animal crafts seem to be the top choice when making puppets from a simple paper bag. The choices are endless with all the different animals.

Kids can make a brown bear, a hopping green frog, a pretty pink elephant or even a black and white striped zebra. Here are the steps to get your kids started on making their favorite paper bag puppet.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Imagine It! Dig deep into your imagination and decide what you want to make. If you are making an animal, think about what your favorite animal is and start with that. Maybe you want to make a bunch of puppets based on a theme like zoo animals, pets or even animals of the wild. Anything goes when you use your imagination.

  2. Step 2

Coloring time! Pick your colors. Your animal puppet can be the normal color like green for a frog, gray for an elephant, etc. But you don't have to stick to the normal rules. Go outside the norm and use bright and fun colors for your paper bag animal.

  3. Step 3

The Gathering step. Get your craft supplies. Now that you know what paper bag puppet you are going to make you can gather up the correct craft supplies. Of course a paper bag is the first supply you need. You can use a brown lunch bag or buy colored bags. Either way works great and will give you a fun and colorful animal puppet. Determine what other items you may need such as colored paper for ears, nose and mouth. You can even add fun buttons or stickers to your puppet.

  4. Step 4

Begin crafting! It's time to start making your puppet. Start by coloring your paper bag with paint, crayons or markers. Of course if you use colored bags this step is already done. Now while the bag is drying, cut out any items you need with the colored paper. You can add arms and legs, a tail if needed and facial features using paper, pom poms, pipe cleaners or other craft supplies.

  5. Step 5

Some assembly required. Get the glue ready because now it's time to assemble the paper bag puppet. Glue on any arms, legs and tails you cut out earlier. Make sure to glue these in the proper place so that once you put your hand in the bag you can still see these parts of the animal. Add the facial features. You can simply use markers to make eyes, the nose and mouth or use colored paper, wiggle eyes, pom poms or other fun craft supplies. Add the ears if your animal has ears.

  6. Step 6

Accessorize! Make your animal puppet extra special and add accessories. You can give them a cute hat, paint their toe nails or finger nails, give them clothing or even give them fun spots or stripes.

  7. Step 7

Accessorize! Make your animal puppet extra special and add accessories. You can give them a cute hat, paint their toe nails or finger nails, give them clothing or even give them fun spots or stripes.
