Step 1
Realize that you can build this relationship with anyone. The key here is to allow other proprietors and entrepreneurs to partner up with you. Other business owners and even marketers may agree to promote your product or service for a percentage of what you make per sale. This is a very valuable concept to put into practice, because other business owners understand the need for product awareness and they may ask you to return the favor. In essence, an affiliation with another business will drive more targeted traffic to your web page.
-
Step 2
Don't discount the general public from being qualified. This step may be a little difficult for some, because not everyone comes prepared with training material for the inexperienced marketer. However, it is best not to discount those who are very good with driving more traffic to your product or service's closing web page. Should you run into an inexperienced marketer along the way, have training materials prepared for them upon the evaluation of their potential and skills. The key here is to be prepared for anything. Understand that the general public comes in four categories. The first category is the sales person, the second is the experienced worker (in any field), the third category is the marketing manager or executive manager, and the fourth is the entrepreneur. Once you have evaluated where your affiliate's experience mostly lies, you can be able to establish effective communication with this person. This will help you to know what training materials he or she will need in order to become successful as an affiliate.
-
Step 3
Start building your own brand awareness as a plateau for your affiliates to work on. Since you already know how to market, you will be able to build a powerful presence on the internet or otherwise. This lets your potential affiliates know that your private or public business does exist.
-
Step 4
While building on your brand, get social! There are a few ways of doing this that work very well with building brand awareness and opportunity awareness. The more visible and available you are, the better. Start by building a profile on the social media sites you are aware of such as: Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace. There are other social media sites that are considered information hubs such as: Hubpages, Squidoo, and E-zine. You should also consider making your image and presence known on video as well. A few very popular video streaming sites are: YouTube, Viddler, and Filmrookie. Once you build enough valuable content on these video streaming sites, other websites like, Technorati and Google video will pick up on your content and embed your video on their sites. Other bloggers and vloggers are known to do this with videos they find interesting. This is a great way to get the word out about your business and its purpose. While on video streaming sites, don't be afraid of giving a demo or two of your product or service. Let people know what your product and service can do for them.
-
Step 5
Now that we have discussed the technical side of self-promoting your opportunity, it's time to think about the affiliate. You must ask yourself a few questions that an affiliate may be thinking when looking at your products and services. Some of the things they may ask themselves are, "Why should I drive traffic to this product or service? Do people really want this? Who is the person behind the business and is he or she easy to get along with? Is the owner of the product or service reliable? Do they pay out?" If you can answer all or just a few of these questions right off the bat, the affiliate will be comfortable with marketing what you have put on the table.
-
Step 6
I mentioned that having an open line of communication is important for both you and the affiliate. With this in mind, you should opt to sign up with a free or paid VIOP service such as Skype. The free service allows you to Skype call anyone around the entire world and you also have the option to have virtual conferences via webcam. This is convenient for those who are unable to travel outside of their immediate area, and it's a great way to cut down some of your costs.
-
Step 7
Start blatantly advertising without spamming. There is nothing wrong with plugging in your website after creating your own work over social media and on other platforms. On the other side of it, if you want qualified affiliates who are willing to work hard for their compensation, it is best to set up web advertisements. You can do this by contacting the phone number or e-mail address of the website owner. Most website owners who offer advertisement space are the owners of social media sites (examples above). This advertisement campaign is known as pay-per-click or PPC. What this means is every time a potential affiliate clicks on your advertisement, it comes out of your pocket. This is a lot more different than paying out a flat rate for an advertisement that is placed in a newspaper, but the cost rounds up about the same. If you don't have budget for a PPC campaign, try advertising on Craigslist.org. They are an excellent source for finding qualified affiliates who can market your product.
-
Step 8
Once your affiliate contacts you, you must know how to evaluate him or her. This is where your excellent communication and evaluation skills set in. You don't have to have an Associates Degree in human resources to know what you're looking for and the personality type of your potential affiliate. Your ability to listen to your potential affiliate during the interview process will be a guide. If the potential affiliate is not sincere or they sound like they have very little interest in marketing for your business, you have found your answer. The key here is people skills and the ability to recognize true intentions through their voice inflection. For example: Imagine running into your next door neighbor at the local supermarket. You exchange greetings and talk for five minutes, but something is off. When she said, "I'm so happy to see you.", her voice was screeching a little and her smile looked as if it were pasted onto her face. This is not genuine interest at all. Take the voice inflection of your affiliate during the interview and match it up against their experience. You will be able to form a conclusion by using your common sense and best judgment.
