Taking care of a home can be a daunting and overwhelming task but it doesn't have to be. With just a little bit of thought and organization your home can run like a well oiled machine. Make a cleaning routine and you won't believe how much more time you will have!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Notebook
  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • A Snack (might as well treat yourself)
  • Coffee or Tea (have to have something to wash down the snack)
  • A bit of quiet
  1. Step 1

First write down every single chore you can think of for the home, don't worry if you forget some because you will inevitably remember them later when we are breaking it down, if you don't it isn't like you can't go back and add it another time. Think of everything you can from sweeping to scrubbing the bathtub to cleaning the gutters.

  2. Step 2

Divide your paper into four columns, label the first daily, the second weekly the third monthly and the fourth yearly.

  3. Step 3

Now go to the list of chores you came up with earlier, go down the list putting the chores into the appropriate category. Don't make more work for yourself then you need to. Daily tasks shouldn't be major undertakings they should be the small things that keep your home looking nice such as doing the dishes, making the beds etc. The weekly chores should involve more elbow grease such as scrubbing the tub and mopping the floors. Monthly chores are chores that should be done to keep your home organized and clean but need not be done on a weekly basis such as cleaning out and organizing closets or cleaning your oven.

  4. Step 4

Once you have divided your chores look to your weekly chores and divide them up so you will do the chore on the same day each week. Example- Monday: Clean Bathroom, Tuesday-Sweep and mops floors etc. Take into account your personal schedule, if you grocery shop on Thursdays then make Wednesday your day to clean out the fridge, if you are gone most of the day on Tuesday then schedule a less energy exerting, time consuming task for that day.

  5. Step 5

Take your monthly chores and decide what day each month you would like to do them and write it on your calendar.

Take your yearly chores and decide what month they need to be done (such as April: Clear closets of winter clothing, launder, put in storage etc), mark the chore in the notes section of that particular month on the calendar. Once April (or whatever month you've chosen) rolls around you can decide what day to do it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't be too rigid with your schedule, if you miss a day because you have a special guest visiting then just pick up where you left off when their visit is over.
  • This isn't written in stone, if something is not working for your then change it!
  • A cleaning schedule is great to keep up your house but you house should be in rather good condition before you begin, if it isn't then take a day and do a good house cleaning before you begin using your schedule.
