How to Burn Music CDs with Windows Media Player

When burning a disc with Windows Media Player, you have the option of creating a music CD or a data CD. A music CD can be inserted into any standard CD player and played in the same manner as a CD you nay purchase from a retail store. Windows Media Player's burn process is straightforward and intuitive.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch Windows Media Player. Click the "Burn" tab in the top-right corner of the window.

    • 2

Click the "Burn Options" icon above the "Burn List."

    • 3

      Click "Audio CD."

    • 4

Click "Music" from the column on the left side of the window to display your music library in the center section of the window.

    • 5

Drag a song from the library to the "Burn List" at the right side of the window. Hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard to select multiple songs at one time. You can also click a song in the Burn List and drag it to a different position in the list to adjust the order of songs.

    • 6

Place a blank CD into your computer's optical drive.

    • 7

Click "Start Burn" above the "Burn List" to burn your music CD.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some CD players are capable of playing MP3 CDs that you can create in Windows Media Player, if you select the "Data CD or DVD" option rather than "Audio CD." An MP3 CD is capable of storing more audio files than an audio CD, as an MP3 file does not require a change in compression. This allows an MP3 to remain at its original, smaller file size.
