How to Stop a Dog From Humping Your Leg
This is a very common, but embarrassing behavior problem among certain of our canine friends. Some dogs develop this behavior and even become obsessive about it. I've actually seen dogs that had to be physically pried off the person. Here are some steps that will help with this problem.

This behavior often develops when the dog has not been neutered. It is a good idea to neuter your dog at an early age to avoid this problem. There are a lot of good reasons to neuter, but it can certainly help with this problem.

Even after your dog has been neutered he may still do this behavior. It is also common for female dogs to do this behavior. In my experience I have seen a lot of dogs develop this behavior because the owner would pet and stroke their dog for long periods of time. A dog can become addicted and stimulated to being touched, and the humping behavior can be a result of it. Petting and praising your dog is important, but if you see that your dog is easily stimulated, pet for short periods of time.

Once your dog starts this behavior, try redirecting the behavior. As soon as the behavior starts, give your dog some obedience commands to do. Work on teaching your dog a good stay command. Once your dog learns this command you can use it whenever the behavior starts.

4
Sometimes a firm "NO" or "STOP" can prevent your dog from continuing this behavior. In order for a verbal correction to work, your dog has to understand that you are the leader.

5
If your dog does not respond to redirection or a firm verbal correction, you may have to leave a leash on your dog for a while. Let your dog drag the leash around the house and when the behavior starts you can take the leash and control your dog. You can also secure the leash to something sturdy until your dog calms. Many times this behavior is unintentionally reinforced by the owner. As the dog starts humping, the owner gives a command such as "Stop," "No,""Get out of here." This can sometimes unintentionally reinforce the behavior.
