Step 1
Invest in socket covers. These handy little plastic devices will cover your light sockets and prevent baby from attempting to put anything into them.
-
Step 2
Install baby gates--especially around stairs! Do not make the mistake of thinking that baby cannot get upstairs. Your baby will surprise you many times as he or she grows up, but don't let that surprise be a tragic one.
-
Step 3
Purchase baby locks and install them on every cabinet that contains items baby is not allowed to play with. Even if the doors to those rooms are typically kept closed. Once again, baby will surprise you.
-
Step 4
Lock all doors. No, baby cannot stand and open doors quite yet, but you want your other children and family members to knock first before coming bounding in the door. You never know when baby might be in the way and could get hurt.
Also, there is a first time for everything. Baby will open doors before you know it. Don't discover this ability by noticing one day that baby has left the house! Prevent potential tragedy! -
Step 5
Move heavy and dangerous objects away from tables and counters. Soon baby will be pulling up and toddling around. Don't give baby the opportunity to pull something heavy or breakable down onto his or her head--especially if this item has a dangling cord. Babies love to pull on cords.
-
Step 6
Vacuum regularly. There are going to be small objects in your carpet that you do not notice, but that baby will be tempted to pick up and place in his or her mouth. Vacuum them up!
-
Step 7
Purchase corner cushions for square tables. This is especially important when it comes to coffee tables. Baby will be learning to walk and tumbling down frequently. You do not want one of those tumbles to be into the hard corner of a table.
-
Step 8
Be around and aware! There is no babyproofing quite as efficient as the presence of a parent. Watch baby at all times.
