Things You'll Need:
- Parallel to IDE external drive box kit
- DB25 parallel cable (if not supplied in the kit)
-
Step 1
Remove the screws securing the casing to your Parallel to IDE drive box, and then slide the casing off of the box. For latch-type boxes, simply disengage the latches on the side of your Parallel-to-IDE drive box and then open it.
-
Step 2
Connect your hard drive to the power and data plugs located inside of the drive box, and at the back. Plug the four-pin power cable into your hard drive's power port and the IDE plug into your hard drive's IDE port.
-
Step 3
Insert your IDE hard drive into the drive box. If your drive box came with foam stoppers, place them inside of the drive box--between the sides of the IDE hard drive and the side walls of the drive box.
-
Step 4
Replace the drive box's cover. Secure the cover to the box with the screws you removed earlier. Or engage the case latches if your drive box is a latch model.
-
Step 5
Insert the female end of your drive box's AC power cable into the power port on the back of the drive box, and plug the male end of the power cable into a power outlet.
-
Step 6
Connect the external drive box to your computer's parallel port via a DB25 parallel cable. Connect the female end of the cable into the male parallel port on the back of your external drive box and then connect male end of the cable into the parallel port on the back of your computer.
-
Step 7
Flip the power switch of the back of the box to the "on" position, and then install the drive box's manufacturer-supplied drivers onto your computer.
