A modern tarot deck is made up of 52 cards. While the type of tarot card layout---or "spread"---can vary by website or online tarot reading session, the intention behind the tarot remains largely the same: to predict luck and request psychic guidance. There are a number of online websites that allow both novice and advanced tarot card enthusiasts to read or interpret tarot cards online.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Select a website from the plethora available online, and decide if you want to obtain a free reading or pay for a more advanced reading. Many websites offer free basic readings; an additional fee is charged for more in-depth or live tarot readings.

  2. Step 2

Choose a type of spread. The spread will determine the number and placement of tarot cards used for a reading. Three-card spreads, five-card spreads, nine-card spreads and shape-based options such as the Celtic cross spread are commonly used for live and online tarot readings.

  3. Step 3

Determine a question or theme for the reading. Questions of love, wealth, work, health and fertility will determine how the reading is performed; each question should be stated at the start of the reading. For example, if the tarot reading centers on love, the website may ask you to define your status---i.e., single, married, widowed or divorced. Your theme or query will determine how many questions you are prompted to answer and how far into the future the reading will investigate.

  4. Step 4

Provide your date of birth and gender. You may also be prompted to enter other information on the website, including your birth name and state or country of origin.

  5. Step 5

Follow the directions provided by the website. Many online tarot card and medium websites allow you to choose a psychic and then contact a toll-free number for a free tarot card reading; certain restrictions may apply, such as receiving a basic reading or a set number of minutes. Others offer features such as decks that are shuffled electronically in the same way that online card games are shuffled and distributed for online players.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some tarot card websites specialize in themed readings.
  • Never provide your credit card number to a website with which you are not familiar.
