Would you like to save money when the children come knocking on your door to sell you something for their scout troupe or school? Here are some ways you can stop paying for things you do not want to buy and love those kiddies anyway.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

SAY NO: Yes, you can say no to the children when they come to your door and want to sell you something that you do not want to buy. Giving them a reason may help you. When you explain your budget to them it may make them feel a little better rather then just saying no with no reason. When you explain your budget you are actually giving the children a very special gift. If you want to save money on children's fund raising sales you are going to have to prepare your self to say no sometimes.

  2. Step 2

DO NOT ANSWER THE DOOR: Believe it or not, you can chose to simply not go to your door. Somehow we think that because someone rings our doorbell that we 'have' to answer it. But as of late, I have chosen to stop answering my door when strangers come calling. Because I have not solicited their business, I see no reason to open my door to them. If you want to save money on children's fund raising activities you can chose to simply not participate in any dialogues with them.

  3. Step 3

TELL THEM TO COME BACK LATER: The most diligent children will actually come back later, however, many of them will simply move on to more rewarding ground and leave your door and never return. If you want to save money on children's fund raising sales you will need to avoid making any purchases on the first approach.

  4. Step 4

GIVE THE CHILDREN A TREAT, THEN SAY NO: Another alternative to step one, is to give the children a treat of your own choosing and then say no. Perhaps at the dollar store you can make some minimal purchases for just these times. Buying a few coloring books and crayons for half a dollar each may be just the thing. Wrap the coloring books and crayons in some pretty ribbon and hand those out then politely say that this is the treat you can offer them today. They leave your door with something rather then nothing and do not feel that you are the neighborhood ogre. To save money on children's fund raising sales learn to say no with a new twist.

  5. Step 5

MAKE A DONATION: When the children are selling item more then five dollars each, consider making a small donation of a couple dollars to the group instead of a purchase. Consider a donation of $2 to the group and then saying no to a purchase. You can take the money out of your change jar and show them that you work hard to save your money. Consider giving the money in change. You appear to be concerned for their cause and not the neighborhood ogre that is not sensitive to their plight. When you want to save money on children's fund raising sales show them that you are a concerned citizen and also responsible saving money carefully.

  6. Step 6

WHEN YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST SAY YES: When all else fails, and you have turned to complete mush, at least consider buying only one item. Make the item the cheapest one available. When you want to save money on children's fund raising sales be sure to buy the minimal allowed.
