Avoid GWC Scams on Model Mayhem

Model Mayhem is a great site for models, make-up artists, and photographers to network and find work. However, the name "model mayhem" fits the description of this site very well. While it can be a great resource for getting professional photos, headshots, and tear sheets, it can also be a breeding ground for photog perverts, otherwise described as "guy with camera."

A "guy with camera," poses as a professional photographer in order to get models to come to his "studio" and get in most instances, free photos, or time for photos. GWC's are not what they say they are, they can be manipulative, only wanting to get what they want out of the bargain and not interested in helping real models get professional looking photos. Below are the red flags, or signs, that can help you spot a GWC preventing your from dealing with unnessary drama/placing yourself in compromising positions.

Be up front and don't be shy or timid to ask for what you want. Many GWC photographers prey on new models who are eager to get started in the modeling industry. Notice how as soon as you sign up and have your profile approved, the "GWC" or vultures will immediatly tag your profile and overflow you with compliments and special rates/free photo deals.

Caution yourself against these photographers who are thirsty for new models to take advantage of. Carefully look over their portfolio to see if their photos are up to your standards. Chances are, GWC photographers will have many unprofessional and bad quality photos, bad lighting, and models who are scantedly clothed. AVOID these photographers like the plague.

Also, pay close attention to GWC photographers that will post several tags on other model's profiles that are inappropriate like "I miss you," or "when are you going to work with me?" They often like to harrass models who they want to work with or have worked with in the pass and often say innappropriate comments on their page. This is a red flag that they are not professional and you should not work with them.
