How to Make a Music Theme Birthday Cake
Baking a themed cake makes a birthday or celebration truly special. It helps continue the theme of the party and makes for a great photo opportunity. Baking is also a fun activity and a good way to introduce children to measuring and mixing. A music-themed birthday cake would be perfect for the musician or music enthusiast in your family. Things You'll Need
- Cake mix
- Mixing bowl
- Can of white frosting
- Tube of black frosting
- Toothpicks
- Cake pan
- Spatula

Purchase a cake mix, and check the box to see if additional ingredients such as eggs or oil are required. Combine the ingredients in a mixing bowl, pour the mix into the cake pan, and bake according to the instructions. After baking, let the cake cool for at least an hour.

Frost the cake with the white icing. To get a smooth finish, put a large dollop of frosting in the middle of the cake and spread with a spatula, avoiding touching the cake itself. Rotate the cake pan while holding down the spatula to make frosting easier.

Draw a treble clef lightly on the icing on the left side of the cake using a toothpick. Trace staff lines across the rest of the cake, and add some musical notes on the bars. Do a quick Internet search if you need to know what a line of music looks like, or copy the first notes of the person's favorite song to personalize the cake.

Trace over the toothpick lines with the black icing. If you make a mistake, carefully scrape that section of the icing off of the cake, and refrost with white icing before correcting it with black icing. When you're finished icing the cake, store in a cool place before serving.
