It seems like everyone is selling paint. Starting with a color wheel or paint swatches gives you the ability to bring the color into your home prior to committing to a gallon of paint. Lighting in our homes can make the colors we've selected appear different in our homes. When selecting paint we want the best color hue to enhance our home while creating the mood we want to portrait in our homes.

Prior to heading to the home improvement store, department store, local hardware store, paint store, or discount store have a basic idea of the color you're looking for. Colors/hues come in such a variety of choices. Green isn't just green. It could be lime green, grass green, lime green, avocado green, sage green, baby green eyes, light yellow green, and the list could be endless.

Once you've decided where you'd like to start looking for the exact shade or hue of color you'd want to create the mood for your home. If the store you've selected have an expert working in the paint department explain the color hue you'd like in your home and ask for assistance in selecting paint swatches. Take more paint swatches than you think you need. Even if a particular color doesn't exactly appeal to you in the store give it a try at home anyway. The lighting in a store is probably much different than the lightening in your home. After selecting approximately 10 to 20 paint swatches go on to the next home improvement store and repeat the same process.

Take the paint swatches that you've selected during your paint selection shopping trip home and using a straight pin and hang all of your choices in the room you've selected to create a different mood. Light in the room can vary by lights being on and the window treatments being open. Vary the lightening in the room so that you have a better idea of what your new color/hue will actually create once painted. Leave the paint swatches hanging on your wall until you've made your final decision. Changing the mood in a room is a decision that might take some time. Don't rush yourself.
