Making potpourri is easy if you know the proper ingredients for the scent that you'd like to create.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • dried herbs
  • jar with tight lid
  1. Step 1

Want an exotic Asian creation of scents that you make yourself? Homemade potpourris only take a little while to create and can be great for gift giving or designing a signature scent. Get your herbs straight from your own garden or from an herbal supply house for the best results. Here are some ways to create an Asian herbal potpourri.

  2. Step 2

Get together all the flowers, herbs, seeds, nuts, or other botanical items that you’ll want to be used in your creation. For an Asian herbal potpourri, you should consider having patchouli, myrrh, ylang-ylang, sandalwood, and frankincense.

  3. Step 3

Each item that you put into your potpourri mixing bowl should be one cup each. Make sure that you are mixing them all together thoroughly.

  4. Step 4

If this is going to be a new mixture of herbs and the scent you create is unknown, make sure that you record the name of the mix, the date, and the ingredients you used. This way it can be recreated in an instant if you’ve found the perfect scent.

  5. Step 5

Put everything in a jar with a good tight seal and store in a cool dark place. Keep there for at least six weeks for the scents to combine properly.

  6. Step 6

After six weeks the herbs can be placed in a jar or basket for decoration, kept in a bag, or if it is for a gift decorate with ribbons and other festive items. Replace your homemade potpourri for new when the scent begins to wane.
