How to Treat Ringworm (Tinea)
If you have children, it probably will be helpful to know how to treat ringworm. Ringworm is a fungal infection of the skin. There are no worms involved in ringworm. Most children have had a case of ringworm, at least once in their lives. Ringworm is transferred by touching an item or a person, already infected by the fungus. The fungus is usually recognized by it's circular shape. Sometimes a skin scraping will be used to diagnose ringworm.

Grapefruit seed extract: For treating ringworm put a few drops of grapefruit seed extract on the infected area, rub round and leave for a few minutes before washing it off.

Topically: You can use over-the-counter anti-fungal creams or ointments to treat ringworm. Cruex cream, Lotrimin, Monistat-Derm cream and Desenex cream, are some of the products that can be used to treat cases of ringworm.

Ringworm of the head: To treat ringworm of the scalp, shampoo your hair as usual putting a few drops of grapefruit seed extract on the scalp. Leave on for about 3-5 minutes and then rinse thoroughly.

Oral medication: Stubborn and widespread cases of ringworm will take a visit to the doctor for an oral anti-fungal and a prescription strength cream or ointment.
