Display vintage costume jewelry instead of leaving it stored away in drawers. Enjoy the varied styles of vintage jewelry that has been collected or perhaps passed down from a loved one. Create a charming display of vintage costume jewelry to give a home personality.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • vintage jewelry
  • assorted picture or photo frames (no glass necessary)
  • steel mesh window screen material
  • scissors
  • ruler
  • permanent marker
  • hot glue gun (optional)
  • ribbon (optional)
  1. Step 1

Select assorted picture or photo frames to display the vintage costume jewelry. Choose random jewelry pieces that will fit into the frame openings.

Purchase a small piece of steel window screen fabric from the hardware or home improvement store. Gather the scissors, permanent marker and hot glue gun.

  2. Step 2

Turn the frame over and measure the back part from one end to the other. Use measurements to draw these dimensions on the steel screening with the marker and ruler. Cut screening outside the lines by 1/4 inch.

  3. Step 3

Use scissors to shape and position steel window screen under the lips of the frame on the backside. Remove screening from the frame temporarily and apply a small bead of hot glue near the inside margins of the frame. Set screen back into glued frame and hold with scissors for a few seconds.

  4. Step 4

Pin vintage brooches to the steel screened openings. Replace frame backing with easel to make a stand-up display of vintage costume jewelry.

  5. Step 5

Choose sentimental jewelry pieces in addition to the vintage costume jewelry. Create a charming display using a simple gold wedding band tied with a single ribbon. Leave opening backless so jewelry is truly showcased.

Tips & Warnings
  • If frame has a glass insert, trace the glass on top of the window screen material instead of measuring the inside with a ruler. This is a much quicker method.

on 9/29/2009 This does double duty as a vintage display piece, or as an organizer for those jumbled earrings that get all tangled up in the jewelry box !
