Things You'll Need:
- Knowledge of prescriptions costs compared to other stores.
- Manufacturer's coupons
- A sharp eye for sales and strategies
-
Step 1
1. When you visit CVS, be sure to check which medications are covered under their generic plans. It may be cheaper to pay the yearly fee and purchase your generics through them than to mail your prescriptions into a pharmacy under your insurance plan.
-
Step 2
2. When visiting the front of the store, be sure to be aware of extra bucks that are available on certain items. Be mindful to also check the Sunday paper, as great deals are also offered that bring forth additional discounts. If an item is deemed "free" after after bucks, you may still use manufacturer's discounts to obtain the item for a lower cost. In turn, you are actually coming out ahead, instead of breaking even, on these items.
-
Step 3
Be sure to remember that CVS also pays you pack 2% on purchases. This will also provide you with additional extra bucks to use on items you may need in the store. Clip manufacturer's coupons for additional savings.
-
Step 4
Walgreens also offers a discount generic drug program. Be sure to check this out in the store, and make sure you are not paying more money to go through your insurance company's mail order pharmacy than you are to buy generic at Walgreens.
-
Step 5
Walgreens also offers Register Rewards on certain items every week. You may purchase a product, and obtain that money back in Register Reward dollars to be used on your next purchase. Remember to have your manufacturer's coupons on hand, as well. These can offset the cost you need to pay up front for the items you are buying.
-
Step 6
Finally, Rite Aid offers competition with other popular pharmacies, such as Wal-Mart. Do not be afraid to ask if they will match Wal-Mart prices for generics. They do not want to lose your business, and many Rite Aids will be willing to agree to this.
-
Step 7
Rite Aid also offers single check rebates. These can be very beneficial in saving money. Unlike Walgreens, and CVS, however, your money will come directly back to you in the form of a check to cash and use. Manufacturer's coupons can be used with the sale price of the item. In turn, sometimes Rite Aid will actually pay you to buy their products, as you get more money back in return than you originally paid for the item. This is due to being a savy and smart shopper. Keep your eyes focused on the prize: securing as many manufacturer's coupons that you can when items are on sale at CVS, Walgreens, or Rite Aid. These will offer additional savings on an already great deal!
