How to Mount a Canoe Onto a Car Top

Canoeing is a great sport that anyone can enjoy. Taking a trip across a river or lake is an exciting way to spend an afternoon. Knowing the correct way to strap your canoe onto your car top is essential when traveling with your canoe.

Things You'll Need

• Canoe
• Straps
• Foam Blocks

Instructions

1. First, slide the foam blocks onto the gunwall (side of canoe). The foam blocks are created with a slit that will make it easy to slide on and off.

2. Next, slide the canoe on top of the car top. Position the canoe so it is centered and proportioned.

3. Then, open your car doors and apply the center strap. By pinching the straps inside the car doors it will prevent the canoe from sliding side to side.

4. After that, secure the end straps starting with either the front or back.

5. Buckle all of the straps and secure them to the under side of your vehicle using tow hooks or another point that would serve the same purpose.

Tips & Warnings

• It makes it easier to start with your middle strap, rather than the end straps, to prevent the canoe from sliding
