Instructions

  1. How to Make a Baby Sock Flowers

    • 1

Lay the first garment, such as a sock, flat with the toe pointing towards you. Roll the sock in tight little rolls until the entire sock is rolled. Use two socks, slightly offset from each other for another look.

    • 2

Secure the "rose" with a rubber band. Wrap the band tightly about half an inch from the bottom of the flower.

    • 3

Insert a precut section of florist wire into the center of the rolled sock.

    • 4

Use the florist tape to tightly bind the sock flower, starting above the rubber band. If you can hold the sock in place while wrapping it with the tape, remove the rubber band. Otherwise, leave it in place. Continue wrapping all the way down the length of the wire, which serves as the stem.

    • 5

Attach silk leaves to the "stem" by their wire with florist tape.

How to Make Baby Clothes Flowers

    • 6

Use a baby T-shirt or onesie for larger buds. Lay the garment flat, fold in the sleeves and fold longer garments (such as onesies) in two.

    • 7

Roll the baby clothes tightly until it resembles a sausage. Secure it in place with two rubber bands, so each side stays rolled.

    • 8

Use florist wire to attach a wooden dowel to the center of the onesie, while it's folded in half creating two flower heads.

    • 9

Cover the florist wire and wooden dowel with florist tape. Attach any leaves if desired.

    • 10

Repeat these steps until you've rolled all of your baby garments into the number of "flowers" you desire.

    Creating the Bouquet

    • 11

Insert any other baby items you wish in the bottom of your container, such as baby shampoo, receiving blankets, pacifiers, diapers and whatever other baby items you've purchased.

    • 12

Insert the silk ferns or other greenery into the vase, basket or whatever container you are using.

    • 13

Insert one "rose" at a item, creating a bouquet. Try to spread out different sizes and colors of the cloth flowers, like you would in a real bouquet.

    • 14

Add any other accents, such as baby's breath, in the arrangement. Turn the arrangement all the way around to ensure an even-looking bouquet. Gently "pull" some of the material of any flowers that need to look slightly more realistic.

    • 15

Wrap your arrangement in cellophane and tie with a colorful ribbon. This will keep all of your flowers in place until the mother-to-be can unwrap the gift. Skip this step if the arrangements will be used as centerpieces or decorations.

Tips & Warnings

  • Choose baby socks and clothes in colors that will go together well. If you don't like the way a "flower" has turned out, simply unroll and reroll the garment. Practice your roses, they will get much easier after the second or third one. Set aside plenty of time to finish your project. This is something you can put together weeks in advance.

  • Make sure the mom-to-be knows it's baby items for her to use; she may not want to unwrap them if she doesn't know.
