How to Reload Back Up Files After a System Restore

Replacing files after a system restore in Windows is the last step after a hard drive crash or computer failure. This step recreates file settings and software preferences after a system restore. Reloading these backup files only take a few steps through the "System Tools" application in Windows.

Instructions

1. Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Programs." Select "Accessories" from the menus and select "System Tools." Click the "Backup" button in the window that opens.

2. Click the "Restore" tab. In this tab section, select the location of the saved files. These can be on your hard drive or another network drive.

3. Select the date of the settings you wish to restore. Choose the date at which the computer was most stable.

4. Check the boxes labeled with the file names you wish to restore. Click the "Start" button and Windows restores the backup files.
