How to Convert AVI to DVD Audio
An AVI video file can be turned into DVD Audio on a Macintosh or PC computer by first turning the file into audio only. This audio only file can then be converted to DVD audio and placed onto a DVD that can be played on a stand alone DVD player or a computer's DVD player.

Converting the AVI video file to audio only on the Macintosh

Download the Perian software that adds support for popular video formats from the company's website. Click on the file when the download is complete and follow the directions to install the program. Then reboot the computer.

Run the Quicktime Pro 7 program once the computer has rebooted. Go to the Quicktime program's File menu at the top of the screen and select "Open File" from the drop down menu. Highlight the AVI file and click "Open" to load the file.

Go to the "File" menu again and select the "Export" drop down menu. Select "Sound to AIFF" from the Export drop down menu that is inside of the window that appeared.

Select where the file is to be saved and click "Save."
Creating the DVD Audio DVD disc

Run the Toast software program and drag the AIFF audio file that is to be converted into the open space at the right side of the Toast main window.

Select the "Audio" tab at the upper left hand side of the Toast program's main window and highlight the Music DVD column below the Audio tab.

Check the "Auto-play Disc" on insert box below the Options box at the lower left hand side of the Toast window. Then click on the "More" button at the bottom of the Options box.

Select the "Encoding" tab that is at the upper right hand side of the new window that pops up. Set the "Video Quality" slider to "Good" (fastest), "Better" (faster) or "Best" (Fast). Press the "OK" button to close the window.

Press the red "Record" button at the lower right hand corner of the Toast window and insert the blank recordable DVD into the DVD drive. Eject the DVD when Toast has finished burning the audio onto the disc.

Run Wondershare Video Converter and drag the AVI file into the profile window on the left side of the program.

Click on the "Settings" tab at the bottom center of the program. Select "Format Preset" in the Settings window that appears.

Select "Common Audio" in the left side of the window and then the WAV audio format in the right side.

Click "OK" to close the Settings window.

Click on "Start" in the program's lower right hand corner to begin the conversion to WAV audio.

Run Nero 6 and click on the icon Audio in Nero StartSmart.

Click on Make Audio CD in Nero StartSmart.

Click the "Add" button in the "My Audio CD" window and browse for the WAV file and click the "Add" button to select it. Then click the "Finished" button.

Click "Next" and select the burn settings as desired and set copies to be made to "1."

Click "Burn" to start the burning process.

Tips & Warnings
The faster the speed of the encoding, the less the quality of the final audio. So it's always better to go with a moderate or slow speed.
The sound quality of the original AVI file will affect how the final DVD Audio sounds. If the AVI audio is not good, the final result will not be any better.
