Step 1
Identify the type of leaves falling on your gutter. Do you have a lot of leaves and clogging or only a few? Are they large leaves or pine needles?
-
Step 2
Decide on your budget, so you'll know which products are in your price range.
-
Step 3
Consider the "Gratest Gutter Cover" when you need a basic and cheap cover to keep leaves out of your gutter. It is made of vinyl with holes so rain water can run into the gutter.
-
Step 4
Compare "The Solution" and "The Leaf Terminator" with the "Gratest Gutter Cover." The first two are made from stronger metals, while the "Gratest Gutter Cover" is vinyl. Vinyl is a good choice because it requires little maintenance and is easy to clean. However, a metal cover is stronger and will not crack as easily.
The metal covers cost more than vinyl, but they may be worth it as a long-term investment. Keep in mind that metal can become discolored or rusted as the years pass, but it typically has a longer life span than vinyl coverings. -
Step 5
Choose between "The Solution" and "The Leaf Terminator" based on the type of leaves you have. "The Leaf Terminator" is made specifically for pine needles along with larger leaves, though both systems feature the same basic design. "The Solution" bolts directly to the fascia board of your home and claims to strengthen the gutter. Other covers may fasten to the shingles, which are not as stable as the fascia board, and thus do not strengthen the gutter as much.
Choose "The Leaf Terminator" if you have a lot of pine needles or want to choose the color of your gutter cover. "The Leaf Terminator" comes in 35 colors, while "The Solution" only has the basic silver color. Use "The Solution" when color is not important and you only need to block large leaves instead of pine needles. -
Step 6
Consider the "Gutter Topper" itself, the company's main product. It does not feature holes for water to pass through like the other products. Instead, it creates an overhang above the gutter where water can run off inside while still blocking most of the leaves. Choose this product if you prefer a smooth, plastic cover over a metal cover with small holes.
-
Step 7
Use the "Color Selector" found on the company's website at GutterTopper.com to view what the "Gutter Topper" may look like compared to your existing gutter color and the type of roof on your house. The color selector does not show any of the other products, but will show the "Gutter Topper" in 13 different colors.
-
Step 8
Choose "Gutter Topper" or "The Leaf Terminator" if you want to select a different color. As of now, these are the only two products that offer a variety of colors. The 13 colors available for the "Gutter Topper" are listed in the color selector. To find what colors are available for "The Leaf Terminator," contact the company.
