How to Make a Victorian Damask Cake Stand

A Victorian-inspired cake stand will be the center of attention at a wedding shower or anniversary party. You’ll probably like the look so much you’ll want to keep the decorated cake stand, but the contact paper removes easily if you want to go back to a plain cake stand. Use a different pattern of contact paper and other colors of trim to achieve a different look.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the contact paper face down on a flat work surface. Place each plate of the cake stand on the paper and trace the circles with a pencil. Carefully cut out each circle of contact paper.

    • 2

Peel off the backing on the contact paper and adhere to plate. Press firmly to make sure the paper has adhered. Repeat until all the plates are covered.

    • 3

Attach the black sequin craft trim to the outer rim of each stand plate with double-sided tape. Make sure that the trim is flush with the stand so that there is not a lip on top of the plate; this can cause the trim to pull off.

    • 4

Build the cake stand according to manufacturer's instructions. Between each layer, wrap the pillar with black satin ribbon and hold it in place with a strip of the double-sided tape.

    • 5

Attach a black ribbon bow to the front of each plate on the stand with double-sided tape.

Tips & Warnings

  • Contact paper can be easily removed from the plastic by simply peeling it off.
