Train Your Cat to Use a Toilet
Train Your Cat to Use a Toilet

Its really not as difficult to toilet train a cat as it sounds but it does take some patience for kitty to learn how to do it. I personally hate stepping on kitty litter in my bare feet so when I got a new kitten I decided it was time to try this method to train him to use the toilet. It really does work.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sitz bath
  • Litter box to start with
  • Toilet
  • Litter
  • Cardboard boxes
  1. Step 1

Place cats litter box next to the toilet like you normally would. By placing the litter box next to the toilet the cat gets used to using the bathroom and does so near the toilet.

  2. Step 2

Gradually increase the height of the litter box until it is the same height as the toilet. You want to do this by raising the box by about 2 to 4 inches for 3 to 4 weeks at a time.

  3. Step 3

Purchase a Stiz Bath and place a small amount of litter in it (about an inch) and place it in the toilet. Also, remove the litter box entirely.

  4. Step 4

You will want to let the cat get used to using the toilet this way for about a month. They will use it just like they used their old litter box but its just on the toilet at this point.

  5. Step 5

Now clip out a 4 inch diameter hole in the Sitz bath. You want to make sure you have flushable litter if you didn't already because litter will make its way in the toilet when kitty scratches to bury it. Try to keep some litter in the Sitz bath as so kitty can transition easily.

  6. Step 6

Gradually increase the size of the hole until it is no longer easy to do so. Kitty should gradually get used to going into this hole. Eventually you can take away the Sitz bath and the cat will continue to use the toilet.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be patient, this takes time for kitty to get used to.
  • The great thing about this is not having to buy litter or clean out the litter box anymore. You may have to go behind kitty to flush however.

on 10/21/2009 I have always heard you could do this but never knew how. Growing up our cat was trained to go outside like a dog. But this saves the hassle of having to let her out!
