It can be challenging to come up with new ideas to entertain children on a rainy day. When kids get bored, they can start getting into mischief and cause problems. Being stuck inside the house can be fun! Try some of these ideas to rescue your children from boredom.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Build a fort with blankets, chairs, tables, pillows and cushions from the sofa.

  2. Step 2

Glue beans and/or macaroni on construction paper, cardboard or other stiff paper to create pictures or designs.

  3. Step 3

Make a necklace out of Cheerios or Fruit Loops. String these on a length of yarn using a plastic yarn needle.

  4. Step 4

Make a necklace using macaroni, ziti or other pasta with holes in it. If desired, color the pasta with markers.

  5. Step 5

Make an obstacle course using sofa cushions, pillows, tables, and chairs. Children can follow the leader over, under and through the obstacle course.

  6. Step 6

Find every pillow or cushion in the house and make a big pile. Jump in the pile, then cuddle there and read stories.

  7. Step 7

Spread a tablecloth in the middle of the floor and have a picnic.

  8. Step 8

Learn to knit, sew, embroider or some other handcraft which will allow the children to be creative and make something useful.

Tips & Warnings
  • Most kids need an opportunity to expend physical energy during the day. They will have better behavior if they have opportunities to do this in a fun and acceptable way. Expecting them to be quiet and "good" all day is a set-up for failure. Find ways for your kids to get their physical energy out in a safe and fun way.
