Keeping garage tools organized is important not only for appearances but also to be able to find them when needed. There are many garage tool organizers to help give items a place to go. Follow the tips in this article to help get started using garage tool organizers.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use a free-standing yard tool organizer to help keep shovels, rakes, edgers, etc. organized. These types of organizers will hold much more tools than using a wall mounted system. Yard tools are typically bulky so this type of organizer provides the needed space away from the wall.

  2. Step 2

Use wall pegboards to utilize unused wall space to hold tools. There are many types of tool holders designed for pegboards to hold a variety of tools. This type of organizer system makes tools extremely easy to find since they are always visible.

  3. Step 3

Use storage tool cabinets to handle pliers, wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers, drill bits, router bits, and other hand tools. There are many choices when it comes to tool chests. You will want to find a multilevel unit, with a variety of different draw sizes to handle different tool sizes. The more expensive tool cabinets have better drawers with ball bearing sliding mechanisms and thicker gauge steel.

  4. Step 4

Use storage containers with small sliding drawers to store smaller tools and specialty equipment. Hardware, screws, nuts, bolts and nails can also be stored in these types of containers. These smaller drawers allow you to have a place for the smaller tool and workshop clutter.

  5. Step 5

Use parts bins and stand alone wire spools to hold a variety of different tools, equipment an supplies. Stand alone parts bins offer a great way to keep tools and supplies organized but out in the open. Parts bins are also heavy duty since they can hold a decent amount of weight in each bin. The type of parts bin shown in the photo has removable bins that allow additional flexibility when working on a project. When buying supplies, look for items that come in stand alone storage containers to keep organizing easy.

  6. Step 6

Use portable tool boxes to organize a specific set of specialty tools. The storage box shown in the photo is well suited for holding tools and supplies like coax cable, a/v connectors, phone cable, cat 5E cable, etc. making it a complete portable audio visual repair center. Other specialty tools and supplies could also be organized in this way.
