1
Use a freestanding yard tool organizer to help keep shovels, rakes, hoes and spades organized. Freestanding organizers hold more than a mounted system and accommodate bulky tools.
-
2
Hang wall pegboards to make the most of unused wall space and keep frequently used tools at hand. Arrange pegboard hooks and hang tools. Because it can be difficult to remember where tools go when you have several down at the same time, draw a black outline around all the tools hanging on the board.

Choose tool cabinets to handle pliers, wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers, drill bits, router bits and other hand tools. Find a multilevel unit, with a variety of different drawer sizes, to handle different tool sizes. More expensive tool cabinets have better drawers with ball bearing sliding mechanisms and thicker gauge steel.
-
4
Use storage containers with small sliding drawers to store smaller tools and specialty equipment. Hardware, screws, nuts, bolts and nails can also be stored in these types of containers.
-
5
Add stand-alone parts bins to keep tools and supplies organized, but out in the open. Look for a system with removable bins for additional flexibility when working on a project.
-
6
Use portable toolboxes to organize a specific set of specialty tools. Wheeled storage boxes are suited for holding tools and supplies like coaxial cable, audiovisual connectors, phone cable and Ethernet cable, making a complete portable audiovisual repair center. Other specialty tools and supplies can also be organized in this way.
