Take your time. Do not purchase the paint on your first trip to the store. Instead take the swatches that you like with you, so you can look at them at home.

Make sure you have your room at least partially completed before you choose your color. It is easier to match paint to your furniture and accessories than the other way around.

Try to find a neutral shade that matches your room's decor. For example, choose the background color on the throw pillows instead of the bright red flowers in the forefront to match your paint to. When looking at a paint strip that goes from lightest to darkest, you will find the more neutral color in the middle.
