How to Choose the Right Paint Color for a Room

Choosing the right paint color for a room is a challenging task. There are thousands of colors to choose from, which makes finding the right one even more difficult. There are a few tips that will help you choose the right paint color.

1. Take your time. Do not purchase the paint on your first trip to the store. Instead take the swatches that you like with you, so you can look at them at home.

2. Make sure you have your room at least partially completed before you choose your color. It is easier to match paint to your furniture and accessories than the other way around.

3. Try to find a neutral shade that matches your room's decor. For example, choose the background color on the throw pillows instead of the bright red flowers in the forefront to match your paint to. When looking at a paint strip that goes from lightest to darkest, you will find the more neutral color in the middle.

Tips & Warnings

• In most cases, bright or dark colors are better for accent colors or trim than for the wall color.
