A gas dryer must be unhooked from the gas-supply line during a move or when replacing the dryer. The process is simple and requires few tools, but one should always exercise caution when working near natural gas. If the gas dryer is being replaced by an electric dryer, it is extremely important to cap the end of the gas-supply line to help prevent a potentially dangerous gas leak.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Unplug the power cord of the gas dryer from the electrical outlet.

  2. Step 2

Shut off the gas by closing the valve on the gas-supply line connected to the dryer. The valve will be closed when the handle is perpendicular to the pipe.

  3. Step 3

Disconnect the dryer from the gas supply at the back of the dryer. Use the adjustable wrench to remove the fittings from the gas-supply line.

  4. Step 4

Seal the open end of the gas line with a gas-supply cap. These caps are available at hardware stores and threaded for easy installation.
