How to Use an Apple AirPort Card

With an Apple AirPort card installed on your notebook or desktop Mac computer, you can connect to any standard wireless networks. AirPort cards work like all other wireless adapters, but they are specially made to function with Apple's line of computers. When enabled, AirPort cards will scan for available wireless networks and automatically connect to ones you have joined in the past.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mac running OS X 10.4 or later
  • Internal AirPort card installed
  1. Step 1

    Launch the System Preferences program by clicking on the Dock icon.

  2. Step 2

    Go to the "Network" control panel underneath the "Internet & Network" heading.

  3. Step 3

    Highlight "AirPort" in the list of network services on the left side of the window.

  4. Step 4

    Click on the "Turn AirPort On" button. This will enable your AirPort card, and the system will begin scanning for nearby wireless networks.

  5. Step 5

    Use the "Network Name" drop-down list to choose a wireless network to join. If the network is protected by a password, you will be prompted to enter it before connecting.
