How to Change Outlook Express

All new PC computers running Windows XP have the Microsoft Outlook Express application installed and set as the default e-mail client. As time goes on, you may decide to purchase or download another e-mail program and make that your default e-mail reader instead. You can always go back and change Outlook Express back to your default program.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • PC running Windows XP
  1. Step 1

    Open the Start menu and click on the "Control Panel" icon.

  2. Step 2

    Switch to "Category View" by clicking on the link at the top of the window.

  3. Step 3

    Go to the "Network and Internet Connections" section of the control panel window.

  4. Step 4

    Click on the "Internet Options" link at the bottom of the window.

  5. Step 5

    Go to the "Programs" tab at the top of the pop-up window.

  6. Step 6

    Select "Outlook Express" from the "E-mail" drop-down list.

  7. Step 7

    Click "Apply" to save your new settings and officially change Outlook Express to your default e-mail client.
