How to Detoxify Your Liver

The liver, which is located in the upper-right area of the abdomen, is a large and complicated organ that continuously regulates your hormones and removes harmful toxins from your bloodstream to prevent them from permeating the rest of your body. An improper diet consisting of saturated fats can overwork your liver, causing toxins to build up that prevent it from functioning effectively. However, the liver is an organ that can regenerate itself under the right conditions.

      Consume a high-fiber diet to flush out toxins. Fiber eliminates toxins by binding with bile in your large intestine. Foods rich in fiber include figs, fava beans, raspberries and barley. Eat high-fiber foods every day.

      Take milk thistle herb in tablet or capsule form. Milk thistle contains a potent compound called silymarin which helps regenerate the liver and remove toxins. Take one 175 mg tablet twice a day, preferably with food.

      Drink a lot of water. Water cleanses your liver by hydrating your body. Drink seven glasses of water every day to help your liver flush out harmful toxins.
