How to Clean a Braun 8585
The Braun 8585 is a battery-powered electric shaver. The shaver is a foil type shaver with a pivoting head. The shaver itself ships with accessories including a base for recharging, cleaning and maintaining the shaver and a cleaning brush. The Braun 8585 has a display on the side of the shaver that indicates which of three levels of cleaning the shaver recommends at any given time. Two of the levels, "Automatic" and "Quick," are fully or partially automated. However, to clean a Braun 8585 when the "Intensive" cleaning is recommended you must clean the shaver by hand. Disconnect all power sources from the shaver. Remove the shaver from the stand if it is in the stand and unplug it if it is plugged in.

Remove the shaver foil. Press the foil release buttons on both sides of the foil and lift it away from the shaver.

Tap the foil on a flat surface.

Clean the cutter block where you removed the foil from the shaver by brushing lightly with the cleaning brush.

Clean the inner area of the pivoting head by brushing lightly with the cleaning brush.

Apply a drop of light machine oil onto the shaver foil if you do not regularly use the shaver's cleaning and charging base. Replace the foil on the shaver, pressing it on lightly until it clicks into place.

The user manual does not say that you must clean the shaver by hand when the "intensive" light goes on. The above instructions are given for when one is traveling and away from the cleaning station, the machine oil for when the cleaning station is not used for a long period of time.
