EA's popular Battlefield game series covers many well-known wars, and Vietnam was one of their first. While basic game play is easy to pick up, using the vehicles properly can be quite the challenge. The game provides numerous types of vehicles, nostalgic music from the Vietnam era and a brief history lesson.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

    Basic Play

  1. Step 1

Start Battlefield Vietnam by placing the CD in the computer disc tray or slot. The auto-run program will start on its own and ask you to start the game.

  2. Step 2

Choose "Multiplayer" from the menu bar at the top of the game, and a list of game servers will be presented. Select a multiplayer server that has a lower ping but with an ample amount of players in it. Servers with a higher ping make it more difficult to play the game.

  3. Step 3

Capture an enemy flag by standing next to it or in the general area. The main goal of the game is to capture all of the flags and hold the area by killing the enemy. To win a match, capture half of the flags, and the enemy ticker will automatically count down.

  4. Step 4

Kill enemies to lower the game ticker in addition to the automatic countdown from holding half of the flags in the game.

  5. Step 5

Enter vehicles by pressing the E key, and use the arrow keys to maneuver and accelerate the vehicle. To use a helicopter or airplane, use the W, S, A and D keys rather than the arrow keys for movement. Maneuver the aircraft and fire the guns with the mouse.

  6. Step 6

Fire your weapon by pressing the left mouse button, and zoom in the weapon by pressing the right mouse button. Switch between your various weapons by pressing the number keys. The 1 key will unleash your knife. The 2 key is a pistol, and the 3 key is the main weapon. The 4 key is the special item designated to the character class, and 5 can also be an additional item, like a repair tool.

  7. Expert Advice

  8. Step 1

Play in single-player mode to practice using helicopters and airplanes. Practice makes perfect with these flying vehicles since they can be very difficult to use properly.

  9. Step 2

Avoid detection if using a vehicle to simply transport you to an enemy flag by blowing it up quickly, or clever enemy soldiers will notice that something out of the ordinary is going on.

  10. Step 3

Lay off the throttle when flying in an airplane to make it easier to turn. Do not fly up too high into the sky or at a harsh angle, or the airplane will stall out and lose power.

  11. Step 4

Press Q while in a multiplayer game to activate the 3-D map. This will prevent you from accidentally killing allied vehicles and aircraft that were stolen from the enemy.

  12. Step 5

Be careful where you step in the game, since punji sticks can be placed anywhere. These poisonous stick patches will instantly kill your character when stepped on. Punji sticks are very difficult to spot, but unless you step directly on them, you will not be damaged.

Tips & Warnings
  • When traveling in a land vehicle do not play the radio or enemies will quickly find your location, unless this is a method of intimidation.
