Almost everyone has a scar or two somewhere on his body. Some scars are more noticeable than others because of their location or size or color. While scars can never be completely removed, they can be treated so as to make them less visible. A number of scar-reducing options are available such as laser treatments, radiotherapy, dermabrasion and corticoid or collagen injections. Another option is the application of hydroactive polyurethane patches for long periods of time. This patch therapy, offered by Elastoplast and others, has proven effective in treating reddened and thickened scars, making them paler, flatter and smoother.

How to Use Elastoplast to Reduce Scarring

  1. Step 1

Apply the Elastoplast patch directly to the scar area. Leave the patch in place for 24 hours (minimum of 12 hours in place to be effective).

  2. Step 2

Remove and discard the patch after 24 hours and apply a new patch. The scarring will begin to be less visible within 3 to 4 weeks with more significant improvement after 8 weeks of treatment. Use the patch therapy for at least 8 weeks.

  3. Step 3

Use the fixing strips in the event that additional adhesion is necessary.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use two patches side-by-side for larger scars. If the patch becomes unattached after showering, dry the area thoroughly and reattach.
